This week on The Punch List, I break down my favorite Amazon Prime Big Deal Days picks for your home, from Roborock robot vacuums and Lutron Caséta dimmers to BORA sawhorses and a Chamberlain myQ video keypad. We also cover a big batch of product recalls and what Berkshire Hathaway’s $8.5 billion Taylor Morrison deal means for housing. Amazon Prime Big Deal Days are happening right now — I’m talking hot steals like Roborock robot vacuums, Lutron Caséta dimmers, a bargain Rove dash cam and even Chamberlain MyQ garage video keypads, but heads up: these Prime-only prices end Wednesday at midnight PT, so move fast if you want the good stuff. We walk through the best picks I’m eyeballing (yes, I own a Roborock and yes, it’s glorious), call out the sleeper bargains like steel Bora sawhorses and wire for DIY projects, and remind you that some of these sale prices only pop up once or twice a year. On the safety front we got a nasty batch of recalls — everything from 4.4 million Walmart grill brushes (do not eat metal shavings, just don’t) to rechargeable hand warmers that can catch fire, sketchy lamps, and cargo e-bike seat-post bolts that can break — so we tell you what to toss, return or quarantine immediately. Big-picture housing news: Berkshire Hathaway just paid $8.5 billion for Taylor Morrison and merged it with Clayton, joining other deep-pocketed buyers scooping up builders, which might be a sign we’re nearing a market bottom but won’t magically fix affordability overnight. I mix a little reality check about interest rates and inventory with a reminder that fewer new builds and smarter owner incentives could help kick the market back into gear. Stick around for our game plan: quick shopping tips for Deal Days, what to do if you own one of the recalled items, and why these builder buyouts matter to anyone eyeing a house in the next year.

Speaker A:

It's Wednesday and that means it's time for the punch list, the midweek edition of around the House.

Speaker A:

Every good job has a punch list.

Speaker A:

The last few things you check before you call it done.

Speaker A:

This is ours.

Speaker A:

The stuff you need to know about your home.

Speaker A:

Straight up and no fluff.

Speaker A:

Here's your host, Eric Goranson.

Speaker B:

Welcome to the Round the House show.

Speaker B:

I'm Eric G. Thanks for joining me.

Speaker B:

This is our early punch list episode.

Speaker B:

This is that week show that we put out that covers the stuff that we didn't get last weekend and of course not this weekend and last weekend we last week we really covered a lot of the real estate stuff out there.

Speaker B:

It has not changed that much.

Speaker B:

So there's not much more to update on that.

Speaker B:

But we have something interesting going on that I wanted to get this one out a little bit early.

Speaker B:

So right now, if you're an Amazon prime person, they got the prime big deal days going.

Speaker B:

And it started this morning on Tuesday.

Speaker B:

It ends Wednesday night here.

Speaker B:

So this is something I wanted to get out a little bit early.

Speaker B:

And these prices are of 8am Pacific Time on Tuesday, 10 6.

Speaker B:

So if you're watching this or listening to it, make sure that you put that into perspective.

Speaker B:

It could be gone by the time you hear it.

Speaker B:

So let's talk about it.

Speaker B:

This goes till Wednesday night, midnight Pacific.

Speaker B:

So here's what we got.

Speaker B:

First UP, the Roborock Cuervo 2 Pro Robot Vacuum and MOP.

Speaker B:

It's down to $484.99.

Speaker B:

I tell you what, I do like these Roborock facts and mops.

Speaker B:

I have them for my house.

Speaker B:

It is, they are very nice.

Speaker B:

They're great with pet hair.

Speaker B:

They really do a great job.

Speaker B:

And then the doc even washes and dries the mop pads for you.

Speaker B:

That's a big sale right there.

Speaker B:

Next up is a smart home upgrade anyone can do.

Speaker B:

It's the Lutron Caseta Diva smart dimmer kit for 159.

Speaker B:

These are big sales.

Speaker B:

A lot of these things like that one was 199.

Speaker B:

I believe it's down to 159.95.

Speaker B:

So you get a dimmer, you get the hub, the Pico remote.

Speaker B:

No neutral wire needed like 15 minute install guys.

Speaker B:

That's an easy one.

Speaker B:

Turn off the breaker before you do it.

Speaker B:

And it works with Alexa, Google, Apple home.

Speaker B:

Now here's one that I saw that was really cool.

Speaker B:

This one's a big one.

Speaker B:

The Rove R2 4K dual dash cam is $107.99.

Speaker B:

It records front and rear, has great night vision and throws in a 328 gig card.

Speaker B:

That's a great deal.

Speaker B:

Here's one thing though that I will say about this one.

Speaker B:

The 4K dual dash cam.

Speaker B:

Yeah kind of 4K.

Speaker B:

It's upscaling it.

Speaker B:

So it's not a true 4K.

Speaker B:

So it's the front cameras recording in two 5K and upscales.

Speaker B:

So be a little careful there.

Speaker B:

It's not really a true 4k.

Speaker B:

Now here's another one that I thought.

Speaker B:

It's really good especially if you're on the west coast or east coast and you got wind, dust, pets, allergy season for at least for me at least never really ends.

Speaker B:and it handles rooms up to:Speaker B:

So it's great for that pet dander, dust and pollen.

Speaker B:

And then I found on here my favorite workhorse.

Speaker B:

That is my folding sawhorses.

Speaker B:

These are made by Bora.

Speaker B:

A two pack for 79.99.

Speaker B:

They're all steel.

Speaker B:Each one holds:Speaker B:

That is a killer deal if you're looking for a heavy duty just sawhorse.

Speaker B:

That is the way to go.

Speaker B:

And a two pack for 79.

Speaker B:

Super awesome.

Speaker B:

Way cheaper than Home Depot.

Speaker B:

And then my sleeper pick is the Chamberlain MyQ video keypad for your garage door down to 44.98 from 105.98.

Speaker B:

That's more than half off.

Speaker B:

It's got the wide angle camera, two way audio, custom pin codes so you know exactly who's coming in and out of your garage.

Speaker B:

So here's the thing, the prime numbers, this is all for prime members only.

Speaker B:

So something to take a look at.

Speaker B:

I tell you what, some of this stuff has got really got some great sales on it.

Speaker B:

Like the Roborock, that's almost 40% off.

Speaker B:

So that's a good deal.

Speaker B:

And there's a lot more of those where that come from.

Speaker B:

So when you start taking a look at these, The Lutron, that's 20% off.

Speaker B:

These are sales that only happen once or twice a year.

Speaker B:

So important stuff, there's some great sales over there.

Speaker B:

Take a look at it.

Speaker B:

Lots of electronics, a lot of great stuff.

Speaker B:

That air purifier like I said, that's 20% off.

Speaker B:

So a lot of these expensive items at 20 plus percent off.

Speaker B:

So really interesting stuff.

Speaker B:

So take a look there.

Speaker B:

And the prime big deals just keep going all day long.

Speaker B:

If you're looking for pans, fire pits, all that stuff, it is out there on sale.

Speaker B:

If you're looking for any of the the Jackery home power units, they've got that anywhere.

Speaker B:

19 To 24% off when you're on there.

Speaker B:

So lots of great stuff.

Speaker B:

A few things I'm gonna buy that are important on there.

Speaker B:

There's a ton of stuff out there that I'm like, ooh, okay, Amazon fire sticks, all those different things.

Speaker B:

Take a peek at it.

Speaker B:% off at:Speaker B:

So take a peek around.

Speaker B:

Here's another one.

Speaker B:

If you're doing some projects, they've got wire on sale.

Speaker B:

That has been one of my things that I've been getting for any of my projects out there.

Speaker B:

The wire can save you a ton of money on Amazon versus what you're going to pay at Home Depot, Lowe's, that kind of stuff.

Speaker B:

So if you're doing some projects, that is the place to get it.

Speaker B:

So take a peek around there.

Speaker B:

A lot of neat new stuff.

Speaker B:

A lot of great stuff, especially if you're Amazon.

Speaker B:

You like the Kindles or the Echoes or that kind of stuff.

Speaker B:

Great sales going on over there@Amazon.com take a peek at it.

Speaker B:

It'll save you some money.

Speaker B:

Now on the recalls, we got a few coming up here this week.

Speaker B:

First off, Gazelle USA recalls urban aero cargo electric bikes.

Speaker B:

Due to fall hazard, the front bolt in the seat post clamping mechanism can break, posing a fall hazard.

Speaker B:There's about:Speaker B:

If you ever want a bike that looks like it's right out of Portland Central Casting, this is it.

Speaker B:

This has the the buckets on them or transport for running around town.

Speaker B:

Take a look at that.

Speaker B:

There's also 134 sold in Canada.

Speaker B:

Gobi Heat recalls rechargeable hand warmers due to risk of serious injury from fire or burn hazards.

Speaker B:

That's not good.

Speaker B:There's about:Speaker B:

So Canada, you're getting off easy on that one.

Speaker B:

And designs Direct recalls Cupcake and Cashmere brand three light floor lamps due to risk of serious injury of fire or burn hazards when plugged in or switched on.

Speaker B:

The lamp cord or internal wiring can smoke, melt, spark, overheat, so don't use it.

Speaker B:

There's about 4,200 of those out there.

Speaker B:

And then Kobashia recalls rechargeable hand warmers.

Speaker B:

Did risk a serious injury or death.

Speaker B:

Same kind of thing.

Speaker B:

Looks like these were probably made by the same factory.

Speaker B:

Be my guess, about 77,000 of those that has the Hot Hands brand on it.

Speaker B:

And then the big one here, another non shocker.

Speaker B:

Walmart recalls over 4.4 million expert grill brushes due to ingestion hazard.

Speaker B:

These are the wire grill brushes, black plastic, little metal scraper on it, super cheap.

Speaker B:

They bought four and a half million of those.

Speaker B:

4.477.

Speaker B:

Take it back for a full refund or credit probably.

Speaker B:

You don't have the stuff for that.

Speaker B:

You could take it back there, but maybe it's just the time to toss that in the trash and get something that's gonna be a lot safer.

Speaker B:

And then Golden Resale recalls portable camping showers due to risk from a fire hazard there.

Speaker B:

The immersion heaters can quickly ignite when they're partially or completely out of water.

Speaker B:

And there's about 400 of those out there, so be careful.

Speaker B:

The next thing, lots of toys, lots of bed rails, lots of little things like that.

Speaker B:

A lot of mattress recalls, the typical stuff we see every single day.

Speaker B:

So pay attention to that.

Speaker B:

A lot of those mattress recalls were not made correctly to meet US standards.

Speaker B:

Of course they got sold online and they showed up not meeting.

Speaker B:

So that's never a shocker when that happens out there.

Speaker B:

Couple quick things I wanted to mention, and this is an interesting one.

Speaker B:

Berkshire Hathaway, that's Warren Buffett's conglomerate.

Speaker B:

He just closed on an 8.5 billion all cash acquisition of Taylor Morrison Homes, merging it with Clayton Properties to create the fourth largest home builder in the U.S. here's the other thing.

Speaker B:

Berkshire Hathaway also holds an 11% stake in Lennar Homes alongside smaller stakes and Dr. Horton and NVR.

Speaker B:

So what we're seeing, including major Japanese firms are on this multi billion dollar buying spree across the US Especially in these Sun Belt and regional markets.

Speaker B:

So we're seeing a lot of this right now because tell you what, a lot of the house builders are hurting, so their stock is low.

Speaker B:

And what happens, Warren Buffett loves to steer into that and go buying.

Speaker B:

Now the other thing is, is we're seeing, it's been happening all year round.

Speaker B:

Japanese builders are also doing the same thing.

Speaker B:

So you're seeing all of this stuff, including Berkshire Hathaway buying more Lennar stock.

Speaker B:

So keep an eye on that.

Speaker B:

That just usually means they're down.

Speaker B:

It's definitely not something that they're playing a long game there.

Speaker B:

So it doesn't mean that we're on the outside of this crunch on housing prices that's going on right now.

Speaker B:

It doesn't mean that at all.

Speaker B:

But it does say that we're starting to see people coming in and grabbing things when they're cheap.

Speaker B:

And maybe that's a sign that we're maybe getting towards the bottom.

Speaker B:

But it's just something to pay attention to out there when they're picking it up.

Speaker B:

That means hopefully we're near the bottom and we could be starting to work our way up next year.

Speaker B:

As long as we see everything expensive for people, as long as we see interest rates where they're at and so many places around the country where there's a housing adjustment right now, I think that's going to be around for a little bit.

Speaker B:

And what we're going to have to do is we're going to actually have to see the demand of we have to see some more housing stop building and then we'll see that probably start to get around.

Speaker B:

We, we have too many homes on the market compared to buyers.

Speaker B:

So really what we need to do is make sure that we're making sure that we've got it so people can buy homes and there's things they could do out there.

Speaker B:

If somebody had a three and a half percent interest rate, maybe you can roll that into another home and keep that interest rate.

Speaker B:

If they did some things like that, that could really spur the housing market and it would probably help it pretty quickly as so many people aren't upgrading their homes because of just that.

Speaker B:

All right, everybody, we've got a great show coming up this weekend and tell you what, it's going to be a great one.

Speaker B:

You don't want to miss it.
